Words of Spirit

“Words of Spirit” (Lectio Divina) is alternative worship held on the 3rd Wednesday of every month from 5:30 pm (promptly) until 6:30 pm.

Words of Spirit is an informal, participatory worship based on deep listening, from a compilation of readings contributed by local Unitarians.

There are four elements to this practice: reading, reflection, response, and contemplation. It is all about creating a space for being inspired; creating a stillness in which the voice of the spirit may be heard.

This will be offered once a month in the sanctuary in addition to the regular Sunday service.

There are no hymns, no prepared address, and no need to bring or prepare anything.

Come, listen, reflect, share freely, and enjoy the growth of your spirit.

Responses to the Words of Spirit experience

“I appreciated the opportunity to sit in quiet contemplation, welcome to speak but free of the obligation to do so. Clearly stating the process at the start was a good way of setting a safe space where people could engage with the text in whatever way they felt comfortable.”

People have described the experience as:

  • Reflective
  • Calming
  • Interesting
